A romantic getaway is what my husband promised me…little did we both know it would turn out to be a trip beyond our wildest dreams!
We were lucky enough to spend the night at Château Charles a charming castle-turned-bed and breakfast nestled in the Belgian countryside! The owners were so warm and lovely! We happened to be the only people staying that particular night and had the run of the place to ourselves. As such, the owner Max, very kindly upgraded us to the Penthouse Suite.
The penthouse suite housed two separate bedrooms with a dining room, living room (complete with state of the art sound system and TV) and two bathroom suites. There was a full kitchen and a private rooftop lounge. A truly posh experience!
Max gave us a wonderful tour, sharing the history of the castle and the land. He mentioned that most of his guests come for the Formula 1 races held at a nearby racetrack. He shared photos of Ferraris and Porsches covering the lawn! Max said while decorating the upstairs rooms, including the penthouse, he drew inspiration from Formula 1 and vintage cars!
Naturally, I enjoy cooking so I asked if we could whip up our own dinner and just enjoy the evening exploring and relaxing in the castle. Max gave us directions to the local grocery store where we bought baguettes, local honey, sausages, cheese and chocolates! We enjoyed a quiet dinner and spent hours just talking and warming our toes in front of the fire in the lounge. It was wonderful to reconnect as a couple! Out of everything we experienced, that talk in front of the fire was my favorite part of our trip!
Naturally, we brought Mr. Boo. He adapted to château life rather quickly and easily! He had the run of the land. Because the château is located down a private drive, traffic was a non-issue. It was great to let Boo roam off-leash and just explore the countryside!
I’d be remiss if I didn’t share the incredible breakfast. It was a completely decadent spread! We had assorted pastries and croissants, eggs made to order, bacon, fruit salad, yogurt, muesli, caprese salad, assorted charcuterie and cheeses. And to wash it down, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, tea, and apple juice.
It’s the personal touches that set Château Charles apart from other B&B’s. They have created an atmosphere that is both cozy and luxurious. The personalized service and attention to detail make you feel at right at home. They have managed to update the chateau with modern touches while remaining true to the past. There are many little touches one thing I truly appreciated were the intricate tiles that were a nod to the Château’s rich history. It was a delightful experience, so much so that we are already planning our return trip! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Château Charles!
If you visit be sure to tell them Brittany sent you!
